Abundant Blessing

We thank you for the turkey,
The gravy and the dressing.
Dear Lord, this table overflows
With Thy abundant blessing.

Let us always be aware
That all gifts come from You,
And may we serve Your heavenly will
In everything we do. Amen.

Religious Thanksgiving poetry can rhyme...or not. For this free verse thanksgiving to God poem, you can leave out the line about "challenges" if you want, in this religious thanksgiving verse.

Thankful for Each Other

Dear Lord,
As we gather together around this table
laden with your plentiful gifts to us,
we thank You for always providing
what we really need
and for sometimes granting wishes
for things we don't really need.
Today, let us be especially thankful
for each other--for family and friends
who enrich our lives in wonderful ways,
even when they present us with challenges.
Let us join together now
in peaceful, loving fellowship
to celebrate Your love for us
and our love for each other. Amen.

Lord, as we bow our heads to pray,
We celebrate Thanksgiving Day.
Help us have the right attitude,
As we turn to you in gratitude.

Thank you for our festive mood;
Thank you, Lord, for this good food;
Thanks for blessings great and small;
Thank you, thank you for it all.

Thanksgiving Prayers for Kids

When I was a young girl, my relatives had my brother and I say a little two-line Thanksgiving Day prayer aloud at the dinner table. This Thanksgiving grace went like this: "Come Lord Jesus, be our guest, and let this food by thee be blessed." So here are some little two-line Christian Thanksgiving prayers that kids could say as a poem or prayer for Thanksgiving, or at other dinners. These short Thanksgiving poems are easy to memorize.

Lord, we thank you this Thanksgiving,
For the food we eat and the lives we're living. Amen.

Lord, we pray You'll bless this food,
As we eat it now in gratitude. Amen.

We thank You, God, for the food we eat;
We thank you for our lives so sweet. Amen.

Thank you, God for this food so yummy;
Thank you for a happy tummy!

Thank you, Lord, for this special treat;
We'll keep Your blessings in mind, as we eat.

Thanks for food and thanks for love;
Thanks to our Lord in heaven above.

Here's a Thanksgiving prayer for kids, not too long, not too short.

Thank You For...

Thank You for delicious yummies
To fill our hungry, grateful tummies.
For other things we're thinking of
And for Your everlasting love,
For all the blessings that You bring,
Thank you God, for everything.

For All that You Give Us

Dear Lord,
On this Thanksgiving Day,
we are thankful
for all that You give us,
for all that You do for us,
for all that You teach us.
Thank You for guiding us
to live our lives
in Your will,
in Your purpose,
in Your plan for us.
Thank You for Your protection
from worldly influence and danger.
Thank You for bringing us gently
to a deeper knowledge of You
and what You want from us,
with Your love, mercy,
compassion and grace.
And thank you, Lord,
for the blessings
we are experiencing right now
at this very moment--
the food,
and the precious people
who are with us
to enjoy this meal
and this day.
Thank You, Lord. Amen.

We Are Thankful

Dear Lord,
we are thankful for this day,
set aside to honor all the ways You bless us
with Your goodness, love, and grace.
We are thankful for the people at this table
who add a variety of wonderful things to our lives
just by being who they are.
We are thankful for the food we are about to eat,
which You created for our nourishment and pleasure.
Most of all, Lord, we thank You
for always being there for us,
guiding us, encouraging us,
comforting us and blessing us.
In Jesus' name we pray; Amen.

Countless Blessings

Lord, on this special day of thankfulness,
we thank You not only for the delicious food,
lovingly prepared and presented,
but also for special gifts
You've given to this family—
loved ones we cherish dearly,
a comfortable place to live,
the beauty that surrounds us,
material pleasures,
health, spiritual wealth,
and so much more.
How can we show our gratitude for
the countless blessings You've provided?
We thank You for giving us clear direction,
through Your Holy Word
on how to show our appreciation,
by obeying Your commands
and by loving and serving our neighbors.
Thank You, Lord.

Another Good Year

We thank you, Lord, for food and friends
And for all of the joy this holiday lends;
It's Thanksgiving Day and we can see
The blessings you've provided our family.

Thanks to you, Lord, for another good year;
When you watch over us, there's nothing to fear.

By Karl Fuchs

There are many things that can be included in a Thanksgiving prayer. This one covers some of the most frequently requested blessings.

Cherished Ritual

Lord, as we pause in our busy lives
to gather around the Thanksgiving table,
sharing the precious bond among family and friends,
let us remember that this abundant harvest,
this feast of delicious and nourishing dishes
is the fulfillment of our faith
that You will always provide for us.
As we go through this cherished ritual,
the Thanksgiving holiday ceremony,
let us feel the comfort of Your care for us
in every bite we eat and enjoy.
In this tradition,
begun by courageous travelers long ago
to thank you for their lives and safety,
we thank You
for the joy and happiness you give us, to lift us up,
and also for the sometimes difficult lessons and challenges
You give us to make us stronger, better,
and more aware of our need for You.
Thank you for the support and courage You give us
to get through troubled times.
Thank You for answered prayers
and also for the times You said "no,"
to keep us from stumbling off Your path for us.
We know that in all things,
You are working for our good.
Now, as we draw together in unity
to savor this wonderful dinner,
we are thankful for those who prepared it,
for those who join us to enjoy it,
and most of all, we thank You, Lord,
for the many different kinds of blessings
You continually grant us.
We pray that You'll bless this food,
and bless all of us as we gather together.
In Jesus' name we pray; Amen.
