A Blessing of Thanks

by Brenda Elizabeth Rose
(Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)

Here's a Thanksgiving message you could send to friends and family.

It is Thanksgiving,
So all I will say
Is I wish to give thanks
For these blessings today.

For all that's around me
So I don't feel alone,
Where there's understanding and love,
The blessing of home.

And there's the blessing of friends
For standing by me;
The gift I so cherish
Is their loyalty.

And even with riches
I couldn't buy it with wealth,
So I thank God I am well,
For I'm blessed with good health.

So I wish you all well
And thank you for listening.
God bless you today and have
A Happy Thanksgiving!

A Happy Day

by Dwayne Barber
(Mooresville, N.C.)

This Thanksgiving message recounts blessings many of us have on our lists.

Waking up after a good night sleep,
In pretty socks to warm my feet,
With the aroma of coffee in the air,
Setting the table for all to share.

A warm, filled tub to take a bath,
Listening to others as they laugh,
Clothes to wear just as I choose,
Deciding now which pair of shoes.

Off to work, thankful for my job,
Rejoicing, in my blessings from God,
Heading home from a happy day,
Can't wait to get home to play.

My little ones blessed with a smile,
Marching to supper in single file,
Thanking our Lord from heaven above,
For my family abiding in his love.

It seems so perfect and full of cheer,
Still, with problems and certain fear.
Yet, when all is said and all is done,
Our life is enjoyed under the sun.

A wish from my heart is for others to be,
Blessed like my Lord has blessed me.
At bedtime when I kneel to pray,
My heart wishes you all a happy day.

Watch Out, Turkey!

by Ella
(USA)

Here's a Thanksgiving message about a turkey.

Once there was a turkey;
He lived in the wood.
He had a lot of feathers,
Just like a turkey should.

He gobbled through the forest;
He wobbled 'round the trees.
I'm so sorry for that turkey;
He's our thanksgiving feast!

Thank List

by Carl Samuels
(New York)

Here's a Thanksgiving message that's a reminder to be thankful every day, not just on Thanksgiving.

When Thanksgiving Day comes once a year,
I breathe a thoughtful sigh,
For every day should be filled with thanks;
Your thank list should reach the sky.

When you open your eyes in the morning,
The miracle of life does start.
No matter what the day brings you,
It is there for you to take part.

You can see each day as your mind thinks,
Either blessing or bitter regret;
So work hard on your mind, and be thankful,
For each day is all we all get.

Thanksgiving Day

by Dwayne Barebr
(Mooresville, N.C.)

Here's a rhyming Thanksgiving message that gives thanks to those who risked all to come to America.

Every year we gather with others to share
Our Thanksgiving Day, as we bow in prayer.
For God has blessed us with his loving care,
As we long for a table with our loved ones there.

Laughing at stories with an ear to what they say,
And loving the joy of this Thanksgiving Day.
The turkey and trimmings on our table doth lay,
With an aroma that says, "Will somebody pray?"

Thankful for these blessings of our forefathers' zest
For a better life. of which we are so blessed,
And we are so grateful, knowing they gave their best,
Trusting faith in our God to bring peace and rest.

This day to share with friends and family,
With love so expressed for one another to see.
Thanksgiving is a National day for all to be
Grateful in heart for God's bounty to you and me!

The Reluctant Turkey

by Jan
(El Segundo)

Um...I doubt this Thanksgiving message was written by a four-year-old, but it is cute, so here it is.

Now I am four I know so much more
than my brother who is one and a half.
I know that Thanksgiving is coming
and my family will be here to play and laugh.
We'll toss the ball, blow bubbles,
run around the garden, play games,
fingers in the paint.
We'll help Mom set the table,
don't forget napkins,
sit next to Opa and Tutti.
Here comes the big feast:
my favorite mashed potatoes,
string beans, mac & cheese.
The turkey made it, but late.
He didn't want to be there;
he'd rather miss this feast.

I Am Thankful For...

by Ada Lin
(New York City)

This Thanksgiving message is a long list of things for which we should all be thankful.

I am thankful for the things I eat;
I am thankful for a bed to sleep.
I am thankful for the warm shelter I get;
I am thankful for the plate that is set.

I am thankful for the sun that shines;
I am thankful for the world so fine.
I am thankful for the moon that glows;
I am thankful for the plants that grow.

I am thankful for the heavens above;
I am thankful for true love.
I am thankful for a warm home;
I am thankful that I am not alone.

To have friends and family,
To enjoy their company,
To smile all day,
And laugh heartily.

To have all these and so much more
Is truly an unbelievable gift.
So much that I have to be thankful for,
I could make a mile long list.

Everyday With You
Is Thanksgiving Day

by Midnight Triffins
(Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica)

Here's a Thanksgiving message in a love poem.

You have become the best part of me,
and through you, God has given me
so much to be thankful for.
I'm thankful for you, my most amazing surprise,
the warmth of your smile, the love in your eyes.
For your heart that beats for me
as much as mine beats for you.
For a love like ours so God-centered
so pure so strong and true.
For every day that He let's us see
the story you're able to share with me.
For every experience good and bad,
because every experience with you makes my heart glad.
For the future that lies before us,
for good friends and family
God has placed beside us.
For our God Who continuously leads us
on this path that will never disappoint us.
May an attitude of gratitude abound in us each day
for small blessings that money can't buy.
For memories that will never fade away.
I'm eternally thankful,
because everyday with you is Thanksgiving Day.

Ever Blessed

by Donna Farries Miller
(Belhaven, N.C. USA)

Thanksgiving is a time for families to gather. This Thanksgiving message celebrates family love.

Thank You for my family Lord,
despite the ups and downs.
Our unit is torn and tattered,
But love is still around.

The years take toll on each of us,
Living brings it's change,
But love becomes the single thing,
That remains the same.

Sharing is a common theme
In living day to day,
Laughter, sadness, sickness and pain
All along the way.

Overlooking failures,
Forgiveness when done wrong
Holds us all together,
Giving a bond that's strong.

So Lord, bless the lives of my family;
Keep us together, I pray;
Help us love one another,
For love is the only way.

Thanksgiving for My Life

by Elayne Meyer
(Berwyn, Illinois)

This philosophical mini-essay in a Thanksgiving message shows that one should look at all of life, not just the bad parts, when adding up thanks.

As a senior citizen, I have a lot of years to look at, filled with ups and downs. I find that my attitude, my viewpoint, the filter through which I look at the world affects how many good things I see vs. how many regrets I feel. Sometimes, when things in my life come up in conversation, people say, "How can you be so thankful? You're divorced, you have other family problems, you've had 15 surgeries!" But my filter prevents me from getting down about most things.

My first, and most serious surgery taught me how strong I was. I surprised myself. I am thankful for that revelation about my character. My family problems are painful, but I trust that there is good in every bad thing, and that God will bring good things out of that pain.

But the blessings; oh, the blessings! So many! A wonderful husband, work I love, and this positive attitude that never lets me down. On Thanksgiving, I am thankful for all of my life, and I pray that others learn to be as happy as I am.
