A Prayer for America

A prayer for America, that we will return to the limited government and moral principles on which we were founded and turn from materialism and self-centeredness to the "greatest commandments."

Is God watching and listening? A lot of people, including me, believe so. There are many people doing searches on pray for America, praying for America, etc., so I wrote one.

A Prayer for America

Lord, we need Your help for our country, the United States of America. We've let things slide for so long that the mountainous task before us seems insurmountable. Yet we know, as Philippians 4:13 tells us, that we can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens us.

Please strengthen us, Lord. We pray You will give us courage, energy and abundant resources to put things right, according to Your will. Help us return America to the principles and values of our Founders. Show us, Lord, how to pare away the many parts of our federal government that violate our Constitution, which clearly defines strong, sovereign states delegating a very small portion of power to a central government. In this Prayer for America we pray You will reveal the steps we need to take to get it done, and give us the motivation, a driving passion, to take the necessary action.

Lord, part of the reason we let things slide so long is that we have been wallowing in material comforts and pleasures, blessings You gave us. Yet we also know from Luke 12:48 that

"From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded;
and from the one who has been entrusted with much,
much more will be demanded."

You have given us much, and often we have hoarded it. We have been entrusted with much, but often we have not used it to do Your will, as revealed in the Holy Bible.

Do You have a hand in this, Lord, escalating our discomfort until we've finally had enough? Is that you Lord, removing your blessings as we turn away from you?

Is that You demanding that we do whatever is necessary to give us back the Christian foundation that made America the most respected, admired, powerful, prosperous and free country in history?

We repent, Lord, and in this Prayer for America we pray that you will help us do Your will. We also pray for Your direct intervention. We pray You will use your awesome, mighty, majestic power to turn this country back to You and to the Constitution that was given to us through "Divine Providence."

We pray that You will help your children, we who love You and try our best as human sinners to obey Your commands for living as set out in the Holy Bible. We pray for Your protection against wicked ones doing wicked things. We pray You'll subdue them, Lord, and keep us safe.

Lord, we are ready to give up time, energy and money to take our country back, but there are many who know there are catastrophic problems in our country and choose to do nothing. In this Prayer for America we pray You will wake them up to the urgency of the dangers facing us and prod them to join us. There are others, uninformed, who don't know about the chains our government is wrapping around us. Lord, we pray You will inform them and spur them to action.

We always have elections coming up, Lord. We pray that our current leaders will make wise, moral, lawful decisions. We pray that each new election will bring us better leaders—honest, virtuous, trustworthy, incorruptible leaders whose goal is to serve You and to serve the American people by adhering to the Constitution as it was originally intended.

Lord, for all of us, we pray that You will lead us farther and farther away from self-centeredness and materialism and closer to You, through the reading of Your word in the Holy Bible. In this Prayer for America we pray that the American people will have as their highest goals the greatest commandments as defined in Matthew 22: 36-39:

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind.'
This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it:
'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

For all this, we pray in Jesus' precious name. Amen.
